Thousands of people braved triple-digit temperatures on July 4 to attend celebrations marking the 250th anniversary of the independence of the United States in Washington.
Crowds moved among state exhibits at the America 250 fair despite a heatwave that sent many visitors searching for shade, water stations and cooling vents. They were also asked to evacuate the venue until weather improved by the evening.
