Education minister Dr Maszlee Malik said the decision to allocate 60% of boarding school placements to students from the B40 income group will help prevent rich kids from abusing the system.
He noted that lately there are a lot of rich kids enrolled in the boarding schools and as a result, the underprivileged ones are left out.
The ministry is extending the reach to help children of low-income uniformed personnel, and the urban poor.
