When asked whether it should be compulsory for school children to wear face masks in light of the high number of asymptomatic cases, Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah on Friday said social distancing procedures were more important.
The Health DG further explained that if social distancing rules are adhered, the spread of Covid-19 can be prevented by 65%, therefore he advised that only those who are symptomatic should wear masks.
Dr Noor Hisham also said under the Education Ministry guidelines, students are not allowed to eat in the canteen but must instead consume bought food or their own packed food in their respective classes, adding that the ministry will be monitoring the gradual reopening of schools and tweak its SOPs if needed.
