Beijing buzzes as Golden Week kicks off in China

China’s October Golden Week begins on Wednesday (Oct 1), combining celebrations for the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day, totalling eight days — one of the longest and most significant holiday periods of the year.

Early on the first morning of the holiday, tourists from other parts of the country strolled onto the streets in Beijing, enjoying boat rides in the famous Houhai area and taking photos in front of the Drum Tower.
