Chow: Shift to ‘Made by Malaysia’ key to semiconductor growth

Malaysia must shift from “Made in Malaysia” to “Made by Malaysia” by developing homegrown semiconductor technologies, intellectual property and companies to move further up the global value chain, said Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.

Speaking at the Malaysia Semiconductor Industry Association’s (MSIA) 5th Anniversary and Merdeka Celebration Dinner in Penang, Chow said stronger industry-government-academia collaboration, better access to financing and greater emphasis on research and development (R&D) and commercialisation were needed to help Malaysian engineers develop new technologies and local companies compete globally.
