CMA still needed to address cyber crimes, says Teo

The Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (Act 588) is still required to address crimes in cyberspace, says Teo Nie Ching.
During Question Time in Parliament on Wednesday (Nov 13), the Deputy Communications Minister stated that the ministry hopes to present amendments to the Act in the current Dewan Rakyat session, which is scheduled to end on Dec 12.
To a concern from Kelvin Yii (PH-Bandar Kuching) about ensuring that the Act does not limit freedom of speech and asked whether engagement sessions had been conducted for the proposed amendments, Teo confirmed that engagement sessions began last October and November, involving stakeholders such as MPs and the Bar Council, among others.
