The Bukit Aman commercial crime investigation department (CCID) in collaboration with the Australian Federal Police (AFP), has crippled a business email compromise (BEC) syndicate operating in the country through Operation Kedasih.
CCID director-general Datuk Seri Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf said at a special media conference on Friday (Nov 3) that six foreign men and two local women were arrested on Oct 23 during five raids in the Klang Valley in connection with the case which involved losses worth A$134,000.
He said further checks on the items confiscated by the police found that the syndicate is related to love scam cases targeting victims from inside and outside the country, adding that the male suspects have been remanded for 14 days according to the Immigration Act 1959 while the two local women were released on police bail.
