Covid-19: 16 clusters linked to umrah pilgrims, seven index cases confirmed to be of Omicron variant

The rise in Covid-19 cases linked to umrah pilgrims is worrying as some 16 clusters linked to umrah pilgrims returning home have been identified between Nov 25, 2021, and Jan 11, 2020 and 219 individuals within these umrah clusters have confirmed positive out of the 456 individuals screened.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, on Tuesday (Jan 11) also linked the spread of cases to poor Covid-19 SOP compliance while performing the umrah, as well as when quarantined at home after returning from umrah.
On current Covid-19 statistics, eight states recorded an infectivity rate (R-nought) value of 1.0 or higher, with the current national value is at 0.98, while the country reported 3,175 new infections.
