Custodial deaths: Civil society groups call for police accountability

Members of the Malaysian Civil Society have called on the government to investigate the recent police misconduct cases resulting in the deaths in custody of Surendran, Ganapathy and Sivabalan and to stop further occurrence of such cases.
At a virtual press conference on organised by Suara Rakyat Malaysia (Suaram) on Tuesday (June 1), a former member of the Royal Police Commission, Datuk Kuthubul Zaman Bukhari urged the government to look into the recommendations made by a Royal Commission of Inquiry formed in February 2004 which included making the police more responsible and accountable.
