Deputy Finance Minister affirms doctors' authority over patient care amid insurance disputes

Insurance and takaful operators (ITOs) and Third Party Administrators (TPAs) have no authority to decide on treatment or patient care, said Deputy Finance Minister Lim Hui Ying, stressing that such decisions rest solely with doctors.

Lim noted in the Dewan Rakyat on Thursday (Nov 6) that ITOs maintain a claims approval rate of over 90%.

She added that a Grievance Mechanism Committee has been set up by the government, Bank Negara Malaysia and industry players to address operational issues such as delays in issuing guarantee letters and disputes over treatment costs.
