DPM: Child bride marriage in Kelantan still valid under Islamic law

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail on Tuesday said the Putrajaya court is powerless to nullify child bride marriages as the Kelantanese Islamic law allows children under 16 to get married with the permission of a Shariah Court judge.
In the latest case, a man was fined RM1,800 by the Gua Musang Shariah Court for not seeking its permission to marry an 11-year-old girl.
