Dr M: Apec countries decided not necessary to hold meeting in US

Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) member countries decided it was not necessary to have its annual meeting in the US after host Chile had to cancel following street protests in the country.
On the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), he called for some trade protection for smaller economies in order to help them compete in international free trade.
Dr Mahathir spoke to reporters after launching Apec 2020 in Cyberjaya on Wednesday.
