Ex-soldier escapes gallows, gets 40 years, whipping for daughter's murder

The Federal Court has commuted a former soldier's death sentence to 40 years' imprisonment and 12 strokes of the cane for murdering his nine-year-old daughter in 2018.
In a 2-1 majority ruling, the apex court upheld Mohammad Abdullah Mohamed's conviction while reducing his sentence, over one judge's dissent.
