Federal govt not declaring emergency over Pasir Gudang chemical spill

Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Mohamed Hanipa Maidin told reporters on Thursday that
Putrajaya will not be declaring an emergency in Pasir Gudang as the Johor state government did not submit a request for the time being.
Nevertheless, he added that the federal government is assisting Johor as if it was an emergency situation.
A chemical dumping incident in Sungai Kim Kim has forced over 1,000 residents to seek medical attention.
