Fimi draws RM2.75bil in foreign investment, creates 31,000 jobs

Malaysia has secured RM2.75bil in foreign investment through the Film in Malaysia Incentive (Fimi) from 2013 to 2025, generating more than 31,000 jobs, Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching told Parliament.

She said Finas is actively promoting Malaysian films at international markets and festivals, while reviewing Fimi conditions to encourage foreign productions to hire more local crew.

Teo also noted strong growth in local box office revenue, which rose from RM180.7mil in 2023 to RM244mil last year, adding that Malaysian films such as Abang Adik, Mechamato and Ejen Ali The Movie 2 have also gained international recognition.
