Finance Ministry: Malaysia's actual debt is RM823bil, not RM1.2 trillion

Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Abdul Rahim Bakri told the Dewan Rakyat on Wednesday (Aug 12) that the nation's actual amount of total debt is RM823.8bil, which was within the statutory ceiling of 53.6% of the nation's GDP but totalled RM1.264 trillion as it includes government liability exposure and commitments.
He added the government liability exposure also included 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) debts of RM32.6bil.
