Fiscal measures will ease country's debt pressure by late 2028, Dewan Rakyat told

Malaysia’s debt burden is expected to ease by late 2028 and into 2029 as the government continues fiscal consolidation, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim told the Dewan Rakyat.
During Minister’s Question Time on Tuesday (Dec 2), Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, said that annual new federal borrowing had already fallen from RM100bil to about RM70bil, with projections to drop further to around RM20bil in the coming years.
Responding to concerns from Syahredzan Johan (PH–Bangi), Anwar dismissed claims that federal debt had breached the 65% statutory limit, calling them misleading and based on “twisted statistics” that confuse total external debt with federal government debt.
