Residents of Flat Seri Perlis 2 at Jalan Datuk Keramat in Kuala Lumpur have urged the government to honour the rent-to-own lease agreement promised by former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohammad, instead of tearing it down for redevelopment.
Seri Perlis 2 Public Housing Residents Association Sponsor Committee Member Norasyimah Daud said on Monday (Dec 26) that Dr Mahathir offered the lease during his tenure as Prime Minister in the 1980s but the residents there are yet given a chance to buy the units today.
Meanwhile, former Federal Territories minister Khalid Abdul Samad urged the government to reconsider its plan to demolish the Seri Perlis Flats, saying that the move would render the residents homeless.
