The government’s decisions will ensure the sentiments of both Muslims and non-Muslims are respected, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
In response on Sunday (Sept 8) to a report that the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) is considering making halal certification mandatory for restaurants and food outlets that do not serve pork or alcohol, Anwar acknowledged that certain regulations might be necessary to ensure Muslims feel confident when visiting specific establishments.
When asked about Seputeh MP Teresa Kok's opposition to the proposal, Anwar said it was her personal opinion, and that any differing views should be open to discussion if there are alternative suggestions or concerns.
