Govt mulls AI analytics, drones to tighten surveillance in northern waters, says deputy minister

Malaysia is studying the use of AI-powered predictive analytics and expanding drone deployment to strengthen surveillance and enforcement in the northern waters of Peninsular Malaysia, says Deputy Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah.

He told the Dewan Rakyat on Monday (June 29) that the measures are aimed at curbing cross-border crimes, including migrant smuggling and the trafficking of controlled goods, particularly around Langkawi.

He added that the MMEA is using its Sea Surveillance System (SWASLA) to detect suspicious maritime activities and continues working with Thailand, Indonesia and Australia to combat cross-border crime and the entry of undocumented migrants.
