Govt to refine targeted subsidies for essential goods, says Deputy Finance Minister

The government will refine the phased rollout of targeted subsidies for essential goods such as sugar, rice and cooking oil, says Deputy Finance Minister Lim Hui Ying.

Responding to Syerleena Abdul Rashid (PH–Bukit Bendera) in the Dewan Rakyat on Monday (Nov 3), Lim said the mechanism will follow the model used for targeted diesel subsidies and the Budi95 programme.

To prevent misuse, Lim added that enforcement efforts such as Ops Tiris and Kita Gempur are being strengthened in collaboration with other agencies.
