Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng said that although he admitted that the implementation of Sales and Service Tax (SST) might have been done in a hurry, he however disagreed that it caused problems for businesses.
A survey by the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM) and the Malaysian Institute of Economic Research (MIER) concluded that the introduction of the SST, which replaced the Goods and Sales Tax (GST), showed that costs for manufacturers had risen by up to 10%.
Lim said he was willing to meet up with FMM to understand the price increase and whether other reasons attributed to it.
