Health Ministry to consider tiered fine system for not wearing face masks

A tiered system for fines for those flouting the face mask-wearing rule will be considered by the Government following an emergency motion on the issue in Dewan Rakyat.

At the Parliament's Special Chambers during a debate on the emergency motion on Monday (Aug 17), Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii suggested the law under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act is to be amended to implement a tier-system for the fines starting at RM250 onwards instead of the current RM1,000.

Deputy Health Minister Datuk Dr Noor Azmi Ghazali said the Health Ministry will bring the matter up at the Special Ministerial meeting on Tuesday. (Aug 18).
