High airfares affecting Langkawi's tourism industry, says deputy minister

Langkawi’s tourism recovery remains sluggish due to high airfares and heavy reliance on domestic visitors, says Deputy Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan.

Winding up the ministry’s Budget 2026 debate on Thursday (Nov 13), he said the island’s tourism performance has improved but is still below pre-pandemic levels.

Khairul Firdaus also said under Budget 2026, RM685mil has been allocated to prepare for Visit Malaysia 2026 — including RM500mil for marketing and RM50mil for major cultural and heritage events.
