Home Ministry studying developing National Border Control System using AI

The Home Ministry is conducting a feasibility study for the National Border Control System (NBCS) to enhance border security with artificial intelligence (AI) technology.
During a Dewan Rakyat session on Monday (July 15), Deputy Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah stated that the NBCS will feature advanced surveillance and AI for unsupervised operations, intelligent control, rapid real-time information sharing, and continuous surveillance to ensure national stability.
In response to a question from Datuk Adnan Abu Hassan (BN-Kuala Pilah) regarding upgrading entry facilities with facial recognition, Shamsul Anuar mentioned that the ministry is developing the Automatic Biometric Identification System (ABIS), a biometric system with AI capabilities, expected to be operational by 2026.
