Illegal plastic recycling factories problem is at worrying levels

Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change (MESTECC) Minister Yeo Bee Yin said the Government has blocked the import of plastic waste a month ago and has shut down 14 illegal recycling factories in Kuala Langat, Selangor that were unlicensed and operating against the Environment Quality Act 1974.
However, Yeoh added that many illegal factories that have imported plastic waste from January and June this year have existing stock that now cannot be processed.
