Japan to release Fukushima water beginning Thursday

Japan will start releasing more than 1 million metric tonnes of treated radioactive water from the wrecked Fukushima nuclear power plant on Thursday (Aug 24), Prime Minister Fumio Kishida announced on Tuesday (Aug 22), putting into motion a plan that has drawn strong criticism from China and local fishing groups.
