Johor MB: New Special Economic Zone could reduce Malaysian workforce migration to Singapore

The Johor government is optimistic that the establishment of the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) and Special Financial Zone (SFZ) will help curb the outflow of locals seeking employment in Singapore.

During a dialogue session marking the one-year anniversary of the Madani Economy on Saturday (Aug 17), Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi highlighted that salary differences are a significant factor driving Malaysians to work in Singapore.

Meanwhile, Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh, who also participated as a panelist, expressed the state's commitment to the success of the Southern Gateway Economic Corridor in collaboration with Johor and Negri Sembilan.
