Laos govt urged to rescue Malaysians held by job scam syndicates

Family members of Malaysian scam victims and NGOs gathered outside the Laos embassy in Kuala Lumpur on Monday (Sept 26) to hand over a memorandum, urging the the Laos government to help secure the release of victims held captive by job scam syndicates.
According to Malaysia International Humanitarian Organisation secretary-general Datuk Hishamuddin Hashim, around 700 Malaysians in Laos were being held against their will, forced into illegal activities such as scamming and online gambling and subjected to threats and torture as well.
