Malaysia is working towards reopening up travel routes with green zone destinations abroad, instead of nations as a whole, says Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri.

Nancy said that when answering a question raised by Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan (BN-Pontian) in Dewan Rakyat on Tuesday (Aug 11), and cited the recent emergence of a second wave of Covid-19 as an example which may prevent an entire nation to be deemed a green zone.

The Minister added that her ministry is working closely with the Health Ministry and Wisma Putra to see if it is possible to reopen such travel routes.

To a question by Khoo Poay Tiong (PH-Kota Melaka) earlier, Nancy said the ministry is offering nine upskilling and reskilling training programmes to affected workers from the tourism industry due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

On another issue, Nancy said she will raise the plight of some 400 trishaw operators in Melaka who have lost their income with the Ministry of Finance to see if further help can be provided for them.
