Malaysia must abolish outdated colonial-era laws, says Anwar

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim says outdated colonial-era laws should be abolished to give true meaning to Malaysia’s independence.

Speaking at the Sahabat Madani 2026 National Day event at Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Permatang Pauh on Saturday (Aug 29), he independence also meant building a united, confident nation capable of charting its own course, while giving young Malaysians greater space to express their views, participate in public discourse and contribute to national development.

Referring to university reforms, he said young people should not be unnecessarily restricted from expressing their views.
