Massive 1.6 million crowds attend Madonna's free concert, awed by historic show

Fans were awed by the historic free concert by US pop star Madonna on the famous Copacabana beach in Brazil on May 4. The concert organisers said some 1.6 million people attended the two-hour concert which marked the end of Madonna's The Celebration Tour.
Madonna had said the show in Rio would be her biggest-ever concert.
Rio's government said they spent US$3.9mil on the concert, while the rest was financed by private sponsors.
