Over 2,600 Illegal waste sites shut down this year, RM490,000 in fines issued, Dewan Rakyat hears

A total of 2,634 illegal waste disposal sites have been shut down this year, involving around 1,500 tonnes of waste and incurring a cleanup cost of RM412,000, said Datuk Aiman Athirah Sabu.

The Deputy Housing and Local Government (KPKT) Minister informed Parliament on Thursday (Dec 12) that 28 court cases had resulted in convictions, with fines totaling RM490,000.

Aiman Athirah highlighted that KPKT, through SWCorp, will intensify efforts to combat illegal waste disposal such as inspections at disposal hotspots, monitoring via closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras, and conducting raids and enforcement operation.
