Rodrigo Duterte isn't president of the Philippines yet but he's already attracting criticism.
At a news conference on Tuesday, he justified the murders of journalists.
"To be frank, most of them have done something because you won't be killed if you don't do anything wrong. The exposes and bad words won't affect us, but most of them have been bribed or they take sides on issues or toy with them."
The Philippines is one of the most dangerous places to be a journalist - over 170 of them were killed in the past 30 years.
Their national union has responded to the comments, saying corruption is no justification for murder.
Duterte is known for his machismo - this was his response when a female reporter asked a question. (wolf whistle bit)
He rose to popularity by promising to root out crime and corruption, and also wants to bring back the death penalty.
