PN not focusing on reintroducing GST, says deputy finance minister

Deputy Finance Minister II Mohd Shahar Abdullah said there is no intention at the moment to reintroduce the Goods and Services Tax (GST) as a means to increase government coffers.
He said this in the Parliament on Monday (Dec 7) when answering a question by Kota Raja MP, Mohamad Sabu on whether the GST would be reintroduced in light of the government's efforts to increase revenue amid the current economic climate.
On Malaysia’s debt rating that was downgraded from ‘A-’ to ‘BBB+’, Mohd Shahar said it was not caused by internal economic factors.
