RM130mil increase in allocation to EC for possible Sarawak polls

The RM130mil increase in allocations for the Election Commission (EC) is to prepare for the Sarawak state polls if they are held in 2021, says Datuk Takiuyddin Hassan.
The Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Parliament and Law) said that when wrapping up his ministerial replies on Budget 2021 in the Dewan Rakyat on Monday. (Nov 30), adding that the increase was done in preparation for the cost of conducting the 12th Sarawak state elections which are expected to be held when the current term ends in June 2021.
However, Takiuyddin noted that the state elections could be avoided under specific conditions that pose a threat to the nation or its economic well-being.
