A preliminary probe on Tuesday revealed that some 1,000 tonnes of waste had been deliberately dumped into Sungai Anak Air Garam which flows into Sungai Linggi, the main raw water source for consumers in Seremban and Port Dickson.
State health, environment, cooperatives and consumerism committee chairman S. Veerapan said the authorities have so far sucked out two tanker loads of waste which could probably include scheduled waste from the river.
He added that they have a long way to go before the river could be thoroughly cleaned up.
