The Transport Ministry will establish a special task force to address heavy vehicle safety comprehensively, announced Minister Anthony Loke.

Speaking at a New Year event on Monday (Jan 6), Loke said key measures include refining Puspakom's inspection procedures to cover critical safety elements like tyres and brakes, enhancing enforcement through collaboration with agencies like JPJ, PDRM, Apad, and AADK, and expanding the High Speed-Weigh in Motion (HS-WIM) system to monitor vehicle loads.

The Automated Awareness Safety System (Awas) cameras will also be upgraded for more comprehensive speed monitoring, while laws such as the Road Transport Act 1987 and Land Public Transport Act 2010 will be reviewed to enforce stricter penalties for overloading offences.
