Spike in cyber scams during MCO, RM6.7mil in losses reported

Police have noticed a spike in cyber scams during the movement control order (MCO) period, which began on March 18.
Selangor police Covid-19 special spokesman Asst Comm Muhammad Yazid Muhammad Yew said despite an overall dip in the crime index in the first four months of 2020, police recorded about 29% more reports on scams from April 1 to 27 this year compared to the same period last year resulting in losses of RM6.7mil.
There were 249 cases this year compared to 193 cases last year.
