Tasik Kenyir's suitability as data centre hub needs to be studied, says Zafrul

A cost-benefit analysis (CBA) is needed to determine the feasibility of making Tasik Kenyir an investment hub for data centres and artificial intelligence (AI), said Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz.

Winding up debates on the 13th Malaysia Plan in Parliament on Tuesday (Aug 19), he said the government welcomed the idea but stressed that discussions with stakeholders were needed to evaluate the site’s energy, water and telecommunications capacity.

Responding to Datuk Radzi Md Jidin (PN–Putrajaya), Tengku Zafrul added that Malaysia currently has no plans to impose a carbon tax on data centres, despite rising investment in the sector.
