Thai exchange student drowns trying to save his friend

In a sad twist of fate, an 18-year-old Thai student died after saving his American friend from drowning at sea in North Carolina, US.
Known only as Sirawit, the student spotted his friend drowning in the waves while surfboarding in the sea and rushed to save him.
However, he ended up drowning instead after it was believed that he was hampered by the rough seas.
Rescue officials recovered his body.
The teen, who hails from Phitsanulok, was on a student exchange programme in the US.
