The Thai Commerce Ministry is monitoring the prices of black clothes throughout the country as its high demand may drive some vendors to overcharge their customers.
Its commerce minister said Thais are buying black clothes to mourn the passing of King Bhumibol Adulyadej.
She added that officials were ordered to monitor the prices of these clothes at clothing shops and wholesalers.
Officials have also been tasked to keep an eye out on sellers who are hoarding goods to prevent them from raising the prices of goods if stocks run out.
The hoarding of goods is punishable by law in Thailand with a maximum jail term of seven years and a fine of no more than 140,000 baht (US$4,000).
