Transport Ministry set to amend Road Transport Act to combat illegal street racing

The Transport Ministry is finalising amendments to the Road Transport Act 1977 (Act 333) to include clearer provisions aimed at tackling the menace of mat rempit (illegal street racers).

Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Hasbi Habibollah informed the Dewan Rakyat on Wednesday (Dec 11) that the draft bill for the amendments has been submitted to the Attorney General’s Chambers for review.

Hasbi further emphasised that the ministry, in collaboration with other enforcement agencies, has implemented additional measures to address the issue more effectively.
