One township in Phitsanulok, Thailand has successfully run a campaign in the kingdom to churn recyclable goods into handicrafts.
The township deals with 10 tonnes of garbage daily while the money collected is donated to help bedridden patients.
The recent event saw a pageant being held along the main street in five villages while the authorities encouraged homeowners to pass on their recyclable goods to the organisers.
A garbage truck was decorated elaborately with plastic bottles and containers retrieved from garbage dumps while both children and adult participants donned costumes decorated with clean discarded materials.
Among the handicrafts sold included handbags made from coffee sachets.
