The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) urged Malaysia to view climate action as a long-term investment rather than a cost, warning that rising temperatures and extreme weather pose growing risks to the economy, food security and livelihoods.

In an interview after a courtesy visit to Menara Star on Wednesday (July 15), UNDP Resident Representative to Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei Darussalam Edward Vrkic called for greater public-private investment in climate adaptation.

He also urged Malaysia to continue protecting its forests and biodiversity while integrating climate considerations into future economic planning.
