US: Any nuclear deal with Saudi Arabia and others will have safeguards in place

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Thursday (July 23) that the US civil nuclear cooperation agreement with Saudi Arabia would include safeguards to ensure the technology “cannot ever be turned into a weapon programme.”
The Saudi Ministry of Energy said the deal, signed by Saudi minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman and US Energy Secretary Chris Wright, aims to facilitate the exchange of expertise, knowledge and technologies in nuclear energy, while strengthening cooperation in line with international standards on nuclear safety, security and non-proliferation.
