The recent World Film Festival of Bangkok showcased some interesting movies from the Asean region.
Among them was “Fundamentally Happy”, a Singaporean film about a man who returned to his old neighbourhood after 20 years to visit his former neighbour.
The reunion appeared to be a happy one at first but gradually unveiled a hurtful past.
The movie was featured at the Hanoi International Film Festival and Luang Prabang Film Festival.
However, the movie was banned in Malaysia last year for cultural sensitivities.
Additionally, two Thai films were also featured, including a documentary called “Railway Sleepers” that took eight years to film.
Dusit Silakong, the deputy director of the World Film Festival of Bangkok, said Railway Sleepers depicted the lives of passengers from the first to third class on a train.
Among the foreign films selected included “Diamond Island” which was produced by a Cambodian-French director.
Dusit said the films featured were mainly due to its narration and issues addressed.
