Dr M says he wants a merit-based government, not party-based

Interim Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad says he wants a Cabinet built of capable individuals who do not have to cleave to party affiliations.
In a televised address to the nation around 4.45pm on Wednesday, he also urged support for this proposal.
“Right or wrong, my opinion is that politics and party politics have to be put aside for the time being,” he said.
