Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said Singapore will lose if it seeks international arbitration over the “ridiculous” price it pays to Malaysia for untreated water from Johor.
The premier said that when asked to respond on Singapore's Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan’s recent comment that Dr Mahathir did not revise the water prices during the water deal review in 1987.
Dr Mahathir said this after opening the 2019 National Landscape Day in Putrajaya on Sunday, adding that the existing deal where Singapore is getting untreated water from Johor at a cost of only three sen per 1,000 gallons is “ridiculous.”
